Don't Skip the Essentials

Many new pilots mistakenly believe that they can achieve mastery solely through flying. It can be tempting to think that performing a few wingovers or other impressive maneuvers is enough to prove your skills. However, this attitude can lead to serious difficulties or even hazards in the future. Here's why:

Many new pilots mistakenly believe that they can achieve mastery solely through flying. It can be tempting to think that performing a few wingovers or other impressive maneuvers is enough to prove your skills. However, this attitude can lead to serious difficulties or even hazards in the future. Here's why:

  1. Wings Are Deceptive: Modern wings are designed to make flying seem easy, but this can lead to overconfidence and misattributing performance to skill level.
  2. Kiting Matters: Having a strong foundation in ground handling and energy management is essential for skillful flying. Poor ground handling can increase the risk and decrease control during complex aerial maneuvers.
  3. The Real Test: True mastery shows itself when conditions aren't ideal. When you encounter stronger winds or trickier launch sites, fundamental skills such as precise kiting and energy management can make all the difference in ensuring a safe flight.

Our Precision Skills Training is designed to enhance your flying abilities and make you a safer and more skilled pilot. This course focuses on teaching you essential ground skills and energy management techniques that will prepare you for any situation you might encounter in the air. It's not about showing off fancy moves to impress others, but rather about laying a solid foundation for a smooth and controlled flight.

Investing in your foundational skills now can significantly reduce the risk of encountering challenges and potential risks in the future. Don't overlook this essential step in your flight journey.

Q: WHAT GEAR DO I NEED TO BRING?

Bring whatever gear you've got, and we'll supply the rest—from kiting wings and harnesses to specialized tools designed to hone your precision skills. Each session is a focused 3-4 hours, tailored to take full advantage of current conditions. So if you're serious about mastering your ground handling techniques, don't wait. Reach out to us now to get started on your journey toward becoming a more proficient, confident pilot.

This course is tailored to accommodate pilots of all skill levels. We've noticed that many pilots, even those with some experience, often possess only average ground handling abilities. Our training aims to fill that gap, providing targeted instruction to enhance your capabilities. Regardless of where you start, each session is designed to make you a safer, more proficient pilot.

We offer training sessions at various locations in Utah, chosen based on weather and specific skill or task. The three most common locations are:

Cedar Valley Airport (Eagle Mountain, UT)
Point of the Mountain Flight Park (Draper, UT)
The Great Salt Lake (Magna, UT)

The answer largely depends on your existing experience and skill set. The PPG 3 rating necessitates a minimum of 90 flights, along with the mastery of specific skills and comprehensive knowledge about airspace and related ground school topics. If you already meet these prerequisites, this course can absolutely serve as the final step in achieving your PPG 3 rating.

Rest assured, we've gone to great lengths to minimize risks to your gear while you're learning advanced maneuvers. Take foot drags, for example: Instead of attempting this close-to-the-ground move right away, we use a series of pool noodles placed in a line at a safe distance apart. Your initial goal will be to lightly touch the top of each noodle while flying. This controlled environment helps you gauge your altitude and speed, significantly reducing the risk of sinking too low and damaging your equipment. Only when you can consistently clear these 'training wheels' will we move on to real foot drags. This safety-first approach is how we handle all our training exercises, ensuring you learn in a way that's both fun and gear-friendly.

The number of sessions needed to master these skills can vary significantly depending on your learning pace and existing skill set. Even one session can provide valuable takeaways, equipping you with new techniques that enhance your flying capabilities. Some pilots prefer to attend a single session, practice independently for a few weeks to cement their learning, and then return for additional instruction. Ultimately, the path to mastery is highly individual and can be tailored to meet your specific needs and comfort level.
